Originally from Mercer, WI, this is Miss Crystal’s first year living in the Madison area. Upon high school graduation, Crystal attended Columbia College Chicago, training in modern, ballet, improvisation, and West African. She is also educated in dance composition, production, theory, anatomy, history, and pedagogy from qualified professionals. In 2016, Crystal earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with a focus on pedagogy. She is a current company member of Madison Contemporary Dance.

Some of Crystal’s dance inspirations were her professors in college. In addition to teaching at Columbia, many of them worked with their own professional companies. Learning about each of their journeys to become professional dancers and professors proved to be both educational and a source of inspiration.

Crystal teaches because she wants to pass down her love and knowledge of dance to others. Her goal is to enhance her students’ love for dance and push them to be better dancers both technically and mentally. She believes that not everything needs to be expressed through words. Teaching students dance allows them to be able to express themselves through movement during the beginning of their lives. Dance is a different language; not with words, but through motion.

Fun Fact: Crystal has a hearing loss and it was because of this that she was introduced to the world of dance.
